What size stop sign do I need?
The MUTCD specifies 30" for conventional roads and 36" for expressways. For private parking lots and HOA communities, 30" is the most commonly used size.
What is the MUTCD standard for stop signs?
The MUTCD (Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices) R1-1 standard requires stop signs to be octagonal, red with white legend and border, using Highway Gothic font, with retroreflective sheeting.
Do I need a permit to install a stop sign on private property?
On private property (parking lots, HOAs, campuses), no government permit is typically required. However, check your local ordinances. Signs on public roads require approval from the relevant transportation authority.
What post should I use with this stop sign?
Standard 2" square galvanized steel or u-channel posts are the most common installation method. Post height should place the bottom of the sign at least 7 feet above the road surface in most applications.
Is this stop sign reflective at night?
Yes. Our stop signs are available with engineer-grade reflective sheeting (standard) or high-intensity prismatic sheeting (premium) for enhanced nighttime visibility.
