Hearing Protection
Hearing Protection is required by OSHA whenever workers are exposed to noise levels at or above 85 dB(A) as an 8-hour time-weighted average. Prolonged exposure to high noise levels causes irreversible noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL), making proper hearing protection one of the most important — and most often underutilized — elements of a comprehensive workplace safety program
Our hearing protection collection includes disposable foam earplugs, reusable earplugs, and banded earplugs for workers who frequently enter and exit noisy areas. Every product is rated with a Noise Reduction Rating (NRR) so safety managers can calculate effective exposure levels and document compliance with OSHA 29 CFR 1910.95.
Hearing Protection FAQs
What NRR do I need for my noise environment?
To estimate real-world protection, use the OSHA method: subtract 7 from the NRR, then divide by 2. The result is the estimated dB reduction. For example, NRR 33 provides approximately (33-7)/2 = 13 dB of effective attenuation for most wearers.
What is the difference between disposable and reusable earplugs?
Disposable foam earplugs are rolled, inserted, and discarded after use — ideal for high-turnover environments. Reusable earplugs are made of washable silicone or polymer and can be used for 6–12 months with proper care, reducing per-use cost.
