FDC (Fire Department Connection) Sign Specifications
Fire department connections should be identified by a permanent approved sign which must have the letters FDC at least 6" high with 1" stroke in either red text on white or white text on a red background.
Signs are required to be on a retro-reflective material with retro-reflective letters, in other words signs need to be reflective, we sell these signs in Engineering Grade (Type I) Reflective Aluminum.
FDC signs indicating the building address, building name, directional arrow or any other copy which indicates property being served by the connection should be 2" high.

The pattern free face allows for clean graphic imaging. It meets the requirements of ASTM D4956 Type I, and will remain effective for up to 7 years. Resistant to fading and mild chemicals. High Intensity Prismatic Reflective Aluminum
A microprismatic retro-reflective sheeting permanently adhered to aluminum that provides a high level of retroreflectivity, and meets the requirements of ASTM D4956 Type IV. It is 3 to 4 times brighter than standard Engineering Grade sheeting, and will remain effective for up to 10 years.

SafetySign.com’s advanced printing process undergoes a stringent cross-hatching test. This specifically tests the adhesion and resistance to separation of the inks from the sign. In testing, a sample from the printing process is scored and covered in adhesive tape. The tape is removed and the sample assessed for adhesion quality.
We use a three-stage process to test all of our printing processes. We print our signs using only the processes that pass all three stages, giving you the highest quality signage possible.
The text is printed in DIN Engschrift Std and PF Din Cond Pro Medium fonts.
The FDC Auto Sprinkler Sign from SafetySign.com uses this font because legibility at a distance is superior with this font than with others. The text on this sign is 6 inches in height on the 18 x 12" size which complies with International Fire Code (IFC) requirements. The text also has a 1 inch text stroke width, which allows it to be compliant with fire department requirements that call for a specified text stroke width.
