What OSHA standard governs safety signs?
OSHA 29 CFR 1910.145 covers specifications for accident prevention signs and tags. ANSI Z535 provides the current design standard that OSHA references and that most safety professionals follow.
What is the difference between Danger, Warning, and Caution signs?
Per ANSI Z535: DANGER (red) = immediate hazard that will cause death or serious injury. WARNING (orange) = potentially hazardous situation that could cause death or serious injury. CAUTION (yellow) = potentially hazardous situation that may cause minor or moderate injury.
Are Notice and Safety Instruction signs required by OSHA?
NOTICE signs (blue) communicate important operational or policy information not directly related to personal injury. SAFETY INSTRUCTION signs (green) convey general safety practices. Both follow ANSI Z535 design guidelines.
