What is Propylene?
Propylene is a colorless gas with a pungent odor, or liquid under pressure. It can be a better alternative to propane for heating and cutting due to its superior combustion performance. It is used in the production of many organic chemicals such as resis, plastics, synthetic rubber and gasoline.
In spite of its many uses, Propylene is very hazardous as well. It is highly flammable and a dangerous fire hazard. Large amounts of Propylene will decrease the amount of available oxygen causing suffocation. Under prolonged exposure to fire or intense heat the containers may rupture violently and rocket. Because it is shipped as a liquefied gas under its own vapor pressure, contact with the liquid can cause frostbite.
