Details

A rectangular rapid flashing beacon (RRFB) is a pedestrian-activated, high-intensity LED warning light used to supplement signs at uncontrolled crosswalks. This single-sided solar kit ships preconfigured with two beacons, an integrated 30W solar panel and battery, a 30" fluorescent yellow-green diamond grade pentagon school crossing sign (S1-1), and left and right diagonal arrow plaques. The beacons flash in the MUTCD wig-wag plus simultaneous (WW+S) pattern to alert drivers when a pedestrian is present. Solar powered, with no AC wiring or trenching required. Suitable for uncontrolled mid-block crosswalks, school zones, and trail crossings. Not intended for signalized or stop-controlled intersections.

The Single-Sided Solar RRFB Kit for School Crossings puts pedestrian-activated warning right where child safety is most scrutinized — school zones, campus edges, and the marked crossings kids use twice a day. On activation, high-intensity LED beacons flash in the rapid wig-wag pattern that drivers recognize and react to, giving approaching traffic earlier warning and more time to stop.

The system is fully solar. A 30-watt panel powers the beacons and activation electronics with no trenching or utility tie-in, so the kit mounts on a single pole and is operational the same day — a real advantage when installation windows are tight around school calendars. Sealed battery storage carries the system through cloudy days and short winter mornings, rated for up to 15 years of service-free operation.

The curbside button is battery-free. Its piezoelectric activation draws power from the press itself, eliminating the dead-button service calls that plague battery-dependent systems — a meaningful difference when the device guards a school crossing and uptime isn't optional. The complete assembly is rated from -40°C to +50°C.

This kit meets the MUTCD W11-15 flashing-beacon standard and ships ready to mount: dual rectangular beacons, the school crossing sign, an arrow plaque, the activation button, solar assembly, and mounting hardware. Sign sheeting is offered in multiple reflective grades, including fluorescent yellow-green options well suited to school-zone visibility.

System Features

Designed for school districts, municipalities, and the contractors who serve them, the Single-Sided School Crossing RRFB Kit combines fast solar installation with a flash pattern that measurably improves driver yielding at child crossings. Included analytics software — free, with no annual license — lets staff configure the system remotely and pull crossing-activity data to document usage and justify the installation.

The encrypted wireless link keeps both beacon heads in sync without running wire between them, and the low-profile housing keeps the unit unobtrusive on campus poles.

Features:
  • Pedestrian-activated rapid-flash beacons for marked school-zone crossings.
  • Battery-free piezoelectric activation button — no maintenance cycle.
  • Fully solar-powered (30W); installs on a single pole with no utility connection.
  • Meets the MUTCD W11-15 flashing-beacon standard.
  • Fluorescent yellow-green sheeting option for high school-zone conspicuity.
