Chemical Storage Signs
Chemical Storage Signs FAQs
What signs are required for a chemical storage area?
Chemical storage areas typically require: chemical-specific NFPA 704 diamond signs, GHS hazard communication labels, flammable/corrosive/toxic storage signs, no smoking signs, PPE requirement signs, and emergency eyewash/shower location signs.
Is NFPA 704 signage required by OSHA?
OSHA 29 CFR 1910.1200 (HazCom) requires chemical hazard information to be communicated. NFPA 704 compliance is required by many local fire codes for storage facilities. Both systems may be required simultaneously.
What is the difference between NFPA and GHS chemical labels?
NFPA 704 is used for fixed facility storage identification (building/tank level). GHS labels are product-level labels used on individual containers for employee right-to-know. Both may be required.
Do chemical storage signs need to be weatherproof?
Yes, if posted outdoors or in areas subject to chemical splash or moisture. Aluminum with UV-stable inks and laminated adhesive labels are recommended for harsh chemical storage environments.
Can I get a custom NFPA diamond for a specific chemical?
Yes. Our NFPA diamond sign builder lets you create a custom fire diamond for any chemical by inputting the specific health, flammability, and reactivity ratings.
