Begin Route Marker Signs are MUTCD compliant (MUTCD M4-14) and use effective images for traffic and pedestrian safety concerns on highway routes. Begin Route Marker Signs are helpful resources to aid in the protection of the health and safety on roads, and are not an alternative for required protective measures for eliminating or reducing hazards.

Section 2D.23 BEGIN Auxiliary Sign
Option
The BEGIN (M4-14) auxiliary sign may be used where a route begins, usually at a junction with another route.
Standard
If used, the BEGIN auxiliary sign shall be mounted at the top of the first Confirming assembly for the route that is beginning.
Guidance
If a BEGIN auxiliary sign is included in the first Confirming assembly, a Cardinal Direction auxiliary sign should also be included in the assembly.
Standard
If a Cardinal Direction auxiliary sign is also included in the assembly, the BEGIN auxiliary sign shall be mounted directly above the Cardinal Direction auxiliary sign.
