Details
This Drawbridge Sign uses informational messages or images for traffic and pedestrian safety concern. A Drawbridge Sign is a useful tool to help protect the health and safety on roadways, but is not a substitute for required protective measures for eliminating or reducing hazards.
Compliance
Section 2C.106 DRAWBRIDGE Sign
Option
- The DRAWBRIDGE (NYW4-7) sign may be used to warn of movable bridges which are occasionally opened, requiring highway traffic to stop.
Standard
- The DRAWBRIDGE sign shall be used in advance of all movable bridges, except:
- In urban areas where the sign would not be practicable;
- Where physical conditions make use of the sign impractice (e.g., a short approach roadway which begins at a "T" intersection); and
- In advance of movable bridges which no longer operate.
Guidance
- Where the DRAWBRIDGE sign is supplemented with a flashing beacon, the operation of the beacon should be coordinated with the operation of the bridge so that drivers seeing the beacon operating can expect to be stopped at the bridge; drivers seeing the beacon inoperative (or ceasing operation) should expect to proceed without being stopped at the bridge.
