Divided Highway Signs are MUTCD Compliant (MUTCD W6-1a) and identify that a median is upcoming on the highway. Divided Highway Signs are useful devices to help display official regulations and provide mandatory information to drivers and pedestrians on both private and public roadways.

Guidance
A Divided Highway (W6-1) sign should be used on the approaches to a section of highway (not an intersection or junction) where the opposing flows of traffic are separated by a median or other physical barrier.
Option
The word message DIVIDED HIGHWAY (W6-1a) or DIVIDED ROAD (W6-1b) sign (see Figure 2C-3) may be used as an alternate to the symbol sign.
