3-Way Sign Mounting

How and where do you mount 3-Way signs?
3-Way signs can be mounted on any flat surface. These signs are supplied with 4 holes at 7/32" for permanent mounting. Signs contain 2 panels printed with the same information. 3-way signs offer 180° visibility.
The purpose of a 3-Way sign is to alert incoming and/or outgoing traffic, at the same time, of any hazardous conditions in the area, the required safety precautions to be taken when entering the area, location of safety equipment or emergency exits, etc.

  • Signs are printed with digital or silk screening UV inks on .060 thick Polystyrene (High Impact Plastic).
  • Polystyrene is a rust free, chip and crack resistant treated (treated for digital and screen printing) plastic.
  • These signs have been designed for the following applications: walls or any flat surface.
  • Signs do not have any overlamination.
  • Image / Text on sign is printed directly onto the plastic.

What do you need to know about Safety Signs:

Environmental & facility safety signs are usually larger because they are observed at further distances. These signs usually contain lesser amounts of information for visual clarity at a distance. Signs should be placed in a clearly visible location and should be protected from damage and obliteration.

  • When safety signs are distinguished by their color code (ANSI Z535.2) they become useful tools to help protect the health and safety of personnel at the workplace.
  • Safety signs are a supplement to, and NOT a substitute for, the required protective measures for eliminating or reducing the hazards in the workplace.
  • Reading and understanding safety signs displayed on machinery or around your facility will help minimize the possibility of accidents and increase hazard awareness.

Safety Sign Functions & Objectives are:

  • The objective of safety signs is to draw attention rapidly and precisely to objects and situations capable of causing specific injuries or accidents.
  • To alert or warn personnel about workplace hazards of which they may not be aware of.
  • To restrict access to areas that present dangerous conditions.
  • To inform people of safety requirements.
  • Provide general information and directions.
  • Remind employees where PPE equipment must be worn.
  • Show where emergency equipment or exits are located.
  • Indicate where certain actions are prohibited.

Safety Sign Recommended Viewing Distances

ANSI Z535-2007 standard uses a ratio of 25 ft of viewing distance per inch of text for Favorable Reading Conditions, and a ratio of 12 ft of viewing distance per inch of text for Unfavorable Reading Conditions.

Determining the safe viewing distance of a sign depends upon many factors: lighting, background, type font and visual acuity. Other factors to consider in determining sign size include: the complexity of the message, the reaction time necessary and the angle the sign will be seen from. In many situations it is better to use multiple smaller signs that are strategically positioned than one large sign.

Many times letter size may need to be larger than the values shown on the graphic for a variety of reasons:

  • To make the sign more noticeable from other information displayed in the area.
  • To enable legibility under low light, or other poor viewing conditions.
  • To alert persons sooner than the minimum safe viewing distance.
  • To convey special importance for portions of the message.
  • To improve legibility for persons who have vision problems with small text.

Description & Atributes

  • High Impact resistant plastic, outstanding material for silk screening.
  • One of the properties of Styrene is its low weight, ideal for many applications.
  • High impact styrene comes with a matte finish and is an opaque white color.
  • Polystyrene is a rust free, chip and crack resistant treated (treated for digital and screen printing) plastic.
  • Graphics are digitally or screen printed with UV inks.
  • Polystyrene is used mainly for 2-Way and 3-Way signs, because it can be easily formed without melting or cracking.
  • Printed image will resist fading and mild chemicals.

Rigid Material: Glow in the Dark (Photoluminous) Plastic:

Description & Attributes

  • Glow in the dark material typically used in no light and low light applications, as well as emergency situations of power loss. Ideal to identify emergency exits and equipment. Signs will glow for 10 hours in continuous darkness. Material is charged by any light source in 15 to 60 minutes, depending on light intensity. This material meets or exceeds DIN 67510-I, ASTM 2072, ISO 15370, IMO Res. A.752 (18), JIS Z9100, NYC RS6-1.
  • Glow in the dark material is a high performance rigid plastic.
  • High impact plastic overlaminated with Glow in the dark (Photoluminous)Sheeting.
  • This material is a rust free, chip and crack resistant treated (treated for digital and screen printing) plastic.
  • Printed image will resist fading and mild chemicals.
  • Type of light source - cool white light sources, such as fluorescent lighting and sunshine, are excellent activators. Soft warm lighting, such as incandescent light bulbs, is at the lower activation end.
  • Length of Illumination - at least 60 minutes of activation are recommended.
  • Outdoor Durability: NOT Recommended for Outdoor Use
  • Service Temp Range: 0°F to 122°F
