Safety Signs vs Labels

Providing your employees with information on potential safety hazards and company policies is a must for workplace safety and compliance. Safety signs and labels are helpful tools for displaying this information, but which product is best for your needs?

There are a few things to consider when selecting the best safety solution for your business or facility. First, where will your message be displayed? Second, how much information do you need to display?

While custom solutions can always be discussed with our expert customer service team, let’s review some key things to think about when deciding between safety signs and labels.

Materials

Safety signs are constructed from heavy-duty materials such as outdoor-grade plastic and aluminum. They can easily be mounted to walls, doors, posts, fences, and more.

Our 2mil polyester labels are laminated with a clear overlaminate, making them last much longer than labels you might find somewhere else. These labels offer superior resistance to high temperatures, chemicals, and abrasion.

Our InfiniStick™ vinyl labels are constructed to be as durable and long-lasting as possible. They are made with Brimar’s specially formulated adhesive and ultra-durable vinyl. They are also:

  • Perfect for outdoor conditions for up to 5 years
  • Safe for use between -20″ to 176° F
  • Engineered for use on wood, metal, brick, concrete, and other difficult-to-label surfaces

Labels also offer a degree of flexibility that cannot be found with rigid signage. Labels can be applied to poles and pillars without drilling or the use of straps, and can also be applied directly to machines.

Size

Size is important to take into account when selecting your workplace safety solutions. Stock options for our signs range from 7 × 5″ to 48 × 36″. Large format signs like this are useful in situations where you need to alert others to hazards from a further distance than their immediate workstation.

While signs have an advantage if you need a large format for your message, the smaller size of a label gives you the ability to attach your message to containers and removable pieces, ensuring that your safety message goes wherever the job may take it. Our labels come in a variety of sizes, from 2½ × 1¾″ to 7 × 5″ depending on shape.

Location

Where you want to display your message is also important when choosing workplace safety solutions.

Our durable safety signs are ideal for outdoor locations that may be susceptible to various weather conditions since they are made to withstand the toughest exposures.

Some labels, such as our 2mil machine safety labels, can be applied on equipment to inform the user there are potential hazards. These areas include pinch points, hot surfaces and more.

Vinyl labels can be applied to acrylic, coated metals, glass, plastic, and steel. They are usually best suited for indoor application but do offer 3 to 4 years of outdoor durability and will resist fading and mild chemicals. With our InfiniStick™ technology, these labels are ideal for outdoor use for longer periods of time, as well as on harder-to-label surfaces.

As you can see, there are three main factors to keep in mind when deciding on purchasing a safety sign or label. Carefully consider the materials, size, and location for your desired messaging when deciding on the right safety solution. Signs and labels are useful in alerting workers to potential hazards and policies, but the pros and cons of each should be part of the decision-making process regarding your specific workplace needs.
