Hurricane Party Ideas to Weather the Storm

In the southeast, hurricanes parties are a traditional staple during the month of August something us Northerners aren’t too familiar with.  Well it looks like we will soon be able to join the festivities with Hurricane Irene creeping close by.  Similar to Snow Parties we get to share the great experience of a Hurricane Party and we put together some tips to make this storm a hit!

Invite for Hurricane Party

Open up your cell phone for a Text Blasts, send out a facebook invite, shoot off some emails and let’s get this party started.  Round up all your friends, meet on higher grounds outside of flooding grounds.

Cocktails for Hurricane Party

Hurricane Drink Recipe

1 oz vodka

1/4 oz grenadine syrup

1 oz gin
1 oz light rum
1/2 oz Bacardi® 151 rum
1 oz amaretto almond liqueur
1 oz triple sec
grapefruit juice
pineapple juice

Next Pour in all the liquors that are listed in order into a hurricane glass about 3 parts the way to the top.  Fill with equal parts grapefruit and pineapple and sip that thing goodbye.

Rum Runner

Two cups of ice

1oz pinnepple

1 oz orange juice

1 oz blackberry liqueur

1 oz banana liqueur

1 oz light rum

1oz dark rum

Splash of grenadine

Next you fill the blender with ice, mix in the liquid concoction, blend until its smooth, pour into a Hurricane glass and add an orange peel to garnish.

The Food for Hurricane Party

Well to make it easy on us lets create a menu that is storm friendly so your not in the backyard roasting up hotdogs in 65mph winds.  Clean out the freezer and fire up the grill prior to the storm.  It is important to cook everything that will spoil once the electricity is cut.  It would be wise to get some ice packs to keep the food nice and chill.

Some things to stock up on here any perishable, prepackaged good such as beef jerky, peanut butter and jelly snack bites, peanut butter crackers, chocolate chip cookies, pretzels and chips, pistachio’s, and some canned goods.

Games for Hurricane Parties

Rip out the board games, it will be quite nostalgic prior to video games flooding the markets.   Light up some candles and play a game of Monopoly, Twister, Risk, poker, Life, Trival Pursuit or even rocks, papers, scissors, shot.

Music Mix for the Hurricane

Make sure you have some batteries for your boom box you used to use 10 years ago or that you ipod dock and ipod are juiced up.  Here are a few appropriate songs to play:

Scorpions: Rock You Like A Hurricane

Johnny Cash: Blowin’ in the Wind

Blackalious: Sky is Falling

Bruce Springsteen: Lost in the Flood

Bob Dylan: Hurricane

Remember it is imperative that you prepare properly and ditch your party plans if advised to evacuate.  Everyone be safe.

*Prior to celebration please route out evacuation safety signs and emergency exits in case of an emergency
