Post Indicator Valve (PIV) in Fire Safety Systems are Known for their usage of process and domestic water supply, post indicator valves are also an important part of fire protection systems in large buildings.
Each fire sprinkler system should have at least one Post Indicator Valve and one Fire Department Connection serving it.
The number and locations of all PIVs and FDCs shall be approved by the Fire Code Official, typically, the top of a PIV should be set so the top is 40 inches above valve.
A minimum of three (3) feet of clearance of obstructions is required around all PIVs and FDCs.
Post Indicator Valves and Fire Department Connections shall be painted OSHA Safety Red or equivalent, and maintained painted and in an operable condition by the property owner.
