What is ISO?
What is ISO?
The International Organization of Standards (ISO) is an independent organization that oversees, creates, and promotes internationally accepted standards for numerous industries, ranging from agriculture and manufacturing to technology.
These internationally accepted standards help to facilitate trade, guarantee quality, and improve safety. There are over 19,500 standards that apply to all types of industries worldwide.
The ISO acronym is from the Greek word, isos, meaning equal, and not an abbreviation of its full name. As ISO has members from over 160 nations, this acronym is fitting for ISO’s goal of bringing all members to equal footing using commerce and safety benefits.
SafetySign.com uses ISO international standards in accordance to ANSI and OSHA standards for the design of safety symbols. These ISO safety symbols are recognized across language barriers to increase hazard awareness and safety compliance.
