Texas 30.06 Sign

A Texas state law went into effect on January 1, 2016 allowing licensed individuals to openly carry handguns anywhere where the carry of concealed handguns is allowed. Now Texas 30.06 and 30.07 signs are necessary for property and business owners to prohibit a licensed gun carrier from bringing guns onto the property.

Texas 30.06 signs and Texas 30.07 signs can be posted to give notice that carrying a gun, concealed and/or openly, is prohibited.

These signs must include the following:

• written language specified in (3)(A) of Sec. 30.06 or Sec. 30.07 of the Texas Penal Code, in both English and Spanish

• block letters at least one (1) inch in height, printed in a contrasting color from the background

The text specified in Sec. 30.06 (3)(A) is:

“Pursuant to Section 30.06, Penal Code (trespass by license holder with a concealed handgun), a person licensed under Subchapter H, Chapter 411, Government Code (handgun licensing law), may not enter this property with a concealed handgun.”

The text specified in Sec. 30.07 (3)(A) is:

“Pursuant to Section 30.07, Penal Code (trespass by license holder with an openly carried handgun), a person licensed under Subchapter H, Chapter 411, Government Code (handgun licensing law), may not enter this property with a handgun that is carried openly.”

If a business or land owner only wants to prohibit the concealed carry of handguns on the property, then a Texas 30.06 sign should be posted to provide individuals written communication that the firearms are not allowed.

If only open carry is prohibited, then a Texas 30.07 sign should be posted.

If a business owner or property owner would like to prohibit all firearms, both concealed carry and open carry, then both the Texas 30.06 and 30.07 signs should be posted in conspicuous locations.
